Privacy policy

Site security
Many people are concerned about supplying personal and/or financial information over the internet. These details have been put together so that you can be reassured that our site takes appropriate security measures for the handling of such details.

We make use of industry standard encryption methods (PGP) and use a 'secure server' (SSL) to collect all personal details.

When subscribing or logging in to the archive you will be immediately diverted to our secure server, and can recognise this from the web URL https (the 's' denotes that the server is a secure one) so that your details cannot be viewed by anyone else. You may also see the padlock symbol at the bottom left of your screen, and/or have a pop-up window inform you that you are being diverted to a secure server (depending on how your browser is set up). This means that no-one else can gain access to your username and password.

Similarly, all personal and financial details which we collect make use of the same secure server technology, so you can be sure that they are made available to the necessary individuals only.

Subscription

Depending on the type of subscription you take out, your details are handled in one of two ways:

  1. '30 day online only' credit card subscriptions are processed on-line via NatWest credit card processing system. As you would expect, all details are handled and verified in a completely secure environment.
  2. Subscriptions to printed journals generate encrypted (PGP) emails, which are then forwarded to our subscriptions department. PGP encryption means that only a strictly limited number of terminals at the subscriptions offices are able to access this information. This is done via a unique encryption/decryption 'key' which is installed on our secure web server, and the terminals required to process the subscriptions.
